Open Space

It’s your open space and we want to hear from you!  If there’s a tree down across a trail, a section that you feel is dangerous to navigate, maintenance you feel should be done – let us know! Unauthorized construction on open space land, such as tree houses or forts or the extension of a landowner’s garden into our public land, should be brought to our attention.  Report a problem or suggestion to: trails@hvlt.org

And, of course, we always encourage you to hike the trails with pruners in hand, ready to cut back an overhanging branch of poison oak or broom.

Marin County Parks and Open Space rules and regulations

This is a critical fire area. Smoking and fires are prohibited.

Bikes are allowed on Pixie Trail and Homestead Fire Road ONLY, both of which are wide enough to accommodate multiple uses.

All other trails in Homestead Valley are single track walking trails. Bikes are NOT allowed because they erode the trails and pose a danger to hikers. If you meet bikers on these trails, please remind them that bikes are not allowed on HVLT single track trails.

Dogs are allowed off-leash under strict and demonstrable voice control only.

Homestead Trailheads

There is a network of trails in Homestead Valley; many trailheads and junctions are marked with a medallion referencing numbers from the map. Trailheads can be found throughout the valley; they’re at a bend in the road, beyond dead-ends and up driveways. Blue numbers near trailheads on the map indicate the street address where the trailhead can be found. Homestead’s trails connect with others to downtown Mill Valley, Mount Tamalpais, Muir Beach and beyond.
